Heartbroken community mourns the loss of young Macie Hill

KAYSVILLE, Utah — A Davis County girl is being remembered as someone who lit up every room she entered, and spent some of her last moments doing what she loved.

Macie Hill, 8, was killed when a semi-truck crashed into a float during the Kaysville City 4th of July parade. Her family and friends are now left with the memories of a bright and beautiful girl who was taken too soon.

"She was just a happy, bubbly, energetic little girl," said her aunt, Jessica Hill. "She was always smiling and always had a kind word to say to everyone she met."

Macie was a member of the Patriot Cheer All Stars dance team, and she was performing on a float in the parade when the accident occurred.

Witnesses said the semi-truck driver ran a red light and crashed into the float, killing Macie and injuring several others.

The driver, 25-year-old Jeffrey Goodwin was initially arrested and charged with automobile homicide, but those charges were later dropped. The Davis County Attorney's Office said there was not enough evidence to prove that Goodwin acted recklessly when he ran the red light.
